Cliffside Dwelling - Toasted Marshmallow - Ceramic Sculpture
This sweet little cottage appears to float on a bed of toasted marshmallows. I love the warm orange flashes on the hillside and deep contrast to the patterned glazed structure.

About the Process
Cliffside dwellings begin as a simple clay slab which is then formed into a landscape shape. Then, natural objects help to texture the surface and create the rocks and hillside. Once the land is defined, I spend time with it determining what form will best compliment the landscape. From there, I sculpt and form the building structures and prepare it for bisque firing.
After bisque firing, I decide how to best 'finish' the piece. Some pieces will venture into an anagama kiln for a weekend long wood firing, while other get a quick soak in the Raku kiln and are out in an hour or two. Regardless of the firing, each piece has the potential to provide a unique highlight to your home or garden.
